Hot Spring, Private Retreat

The project was all about capturing the feel of a Sierra hot spring, right in the clients backyard. To bring that vision to life, we craned in over 10 tons of boulders; some boulders formed informal steps between the hot tub and lower patio, and one massive stone placed for sunbathing. Natural materials and rugged textures were used throughout, with a planting palette of cedars, pines, and other mountain adapted species to evoke a high-elevation atmosphere. The hot tub serves as the central "spring", making the whole space feel like a personal alpine retreat.
